  personality.     Soft and as gentle as snow, initial impressions of Vivien are usually pleasant, albeit short, as she prefers not to partake in small talk. Quiet, shy and often described as a "presence as small as her size," Vivien is a difficult woman to get to know. She is hesitant opening up to those around her and is often lost within her own mind and imagination.   appearance.     Vivien is a petite and pale woman whose fair skin is decorated in glowing aetheric constellations mirroring the night sky. As a Miqo'te, she is naturally equipped with feline ears and an exceptionally fluffy tail; her naturally wavy blonde hair is well kept. White markings on her cheeks expose her as a Keeper of the Moon. Her doll-like blue eyes are filled with stars and are often accentuated by makeup to compliment her naturally flushed cheeks.                                                             ───── ⋆⁺₊⋆
  fashion.     She prefers to wear formal clothing following popular Ishgardian fashion with layers of ruffles and lace; she has begun to branch out and expose more skin but she still prefers the layers of traditional and modern Ishgardian fashion. Her tail, ears and hair are frequently adorned by ribbons and jewels. She always wears the wedding ring that was lovingly crafted by her husband for their eternal bonding ceremony. Starseer. Prior to the Sundering, Vivien's soul rested in the chest of a woman named Selene, a celestial scholar, who was of great import to Menphina.
Keeper of the Moon. As a Keeper, Vivien is naturally nocturnal and thrives most at night.
Bookworm. Vivien always has a book in her hands and her travelling bags are often uncomfortably heavy from their weight.
Adventurer.After running away from Ishgard, Vivien is now a seasoned adventurer. Travelling alongside her husband and Warrior of Light, Kaian, she is a valuable healer and dancer.

Menphina's Maiden. Blessed by the Lover, Vivien's body holds an extraordinary amount of celestial magic. When channeling her aether, Vivien's eyes glow a brighter blue and her constellation skin becomes more vibrant. The blessing allows her to siphon aether from moonlight, however she is unable to create her own without such light.
Stardancer. A natural astromancer, Vivien has since learned to blend her newfound dancing skills with astromancy. Observers describe her as appearing like a shooting star on the battlefield, dashing within clusters of celestial matter.
Aether Crystals. Due to the Moonmaiden's inherent nature to stockpile aether within her body, Vivien channels the excess into crystals otherwise she falls ill from high-aether sickness.

whispers of the moonlit maiden

In some Keeper of the Moon prayers, a tale is sung telling of the birth of a child to the Mewrilah clan whose eyes beheld the stars themselves. Initially viewed as an abomination and not of this realm, the matriarch of the clan would command that the infant be left in the freezing cold to succumb to the elements. Menphina then appeared before the Keepers, breaking her vow of non-intervention, and take the child in her arms. “Oh, my dear friend,” she is said to have cooed, her own face filled with love for the infant, “if only we needn't meet again like this.”Sparing not a moment, Menphina would bless the child with glowing stars across her skin; it is said in one song that Menphina plucked a star from the sky and imbued the infant with glowing star freckles while another song would claim that the stars were formed from Menphina’s tears of joy. Returning the child to her mother and fleeing back to her sanctuary of ice among the gods, Menphina fell silent once more.The infant blessed by Menphina would become known to some Keeper clans as the Moonmaiden, whose eyes and skin mirrored the stars under which they walked, a woman whose aether was born of moonlight. Eventually, the Moonmaiden became a mother herself, her newborn daughter inheriting her glowing freckles. However, stars were absent in the child's eyes. Such starlit eyes would not be seen until the Maiden herself passed and her own daughter's newborn daughter would hold them instead, suggesting that the Maiden's soul recycled within the same maternal line.Such prayer songs are now considered myth as many of their tales cannot be verified outside of Keeper oral history, so fringe that only a few scholars know of them. Whether tales of the Moonmaiden were true or not, her presence within Keeper culture effectively disappeared over 100 years ago when the clan began to travel as nomads, rarely being sighted by followers and strangers alike.

After 100 years of silence from the Moonmaiden and her close followers, House Valentine, a lesser noble house of Ishgard affiliated with House Valentione, would come to accept a lowly maid named Rhea Mewrilah into their home. A strange girl with many secrets and prone to covering up every inch of her skin, she and the matriarch of House Valentine, Adelaide, would form an unlikely yet close friendship. Despite residing in Halonic Ishgard, Rhea was a devoted follower of Menphina, frequently praying during the full moon and often humming her cultural hymns.Not long into her employment, Rhea would reveal to Adelaide that she was pregnant and had run away from home to protect her daughter. While the two promised to raise their children together, Rhea would experience a difficult pregnancy and ultimately pass away in childbirth; in one singular moment, Adelaide and Aubin would come to see the sparkling stars that Rhea kept hidden while finding themselves as caretakers of a child with the same condition.Refusing to go back on her word, Adelaide convinced Aubin to adopt the child as their own. As Rhea had refused to name her daughter until she was born, the infant was without a name and thus given the name of Vivien Helene Valentine. However, the two were at a loss as to why the mother and child sparkled like the night sky.Knowing nothing of the Moonmaiden and fearing what could happen to the young Vivien should the Church's oppressively prying eyes find out, House Valentine resorted to glamour spells cast by a trusted mage but the child's concentrated aether quickly withered away such charms. As a last resort, they taught the young Keeper to cover up her glowing freckles as much as possible. Long sleeves and dresses, gloves, tall boots, and tights became a staple of Vivien's closet - attire she eventually would find comfort in.

childhood & pre-calamity

Growing up among Elezen nobility, Vivien was shielded from the nature of her birth and told tale after tale about the dimly glowing stars that decorated her skin; she was trained from a young age to glamour her stars away.A sickly and nocturnal child, Vivien was often confined to her bed from high aether sickness, an affliction that puzzled even the most talented of healers within Ishgard. To pass the time, she found herself pouring countless hours into the pages of House Valentine. One particular storybook became Vivien's favorite, the words weaving a tale of Halone and Menphina and their palace of ice in the heavens. Despite growing up surrounded by Halonic doctrine, Vivien found herself deeply drawn to Menphina.As Vivien aged and found herself more and more curious of her bodily stars, she turned her sights to the night sky. Her fascination was noticed by Adelaide and the kind Elezen hired a private tutor to teach her astromancy, a healing art that she ultimately proved to be a natural at.

As a noble, adopted or otherwise, much of Vivien's childhood was centered around training her to be the perfect socialite. Elegant dances to dazzle at extravagant balls, violin and piano lessons to impress any suitor, hours upon hours of etiquette classes - it was all deeply ingrained in Vivien from a very young age. Like many other women of Ishgardian nobility, it was expected of her to eventually court and marry a man of another House for the benefit of her own. Aubin often lamented how much more difficult it would be to "find someone suitable for the girl's condition."Eventually the young Miqo'te became frustrated, particularly in her teen years, with being confined within the House Valentine estate, feeling not unlike that of a caged bird. Already awake late when her family was not, she began to seize the opportunity to sneak out and explore the city, although she usually spent such time hiding away in the library. During these late night excursions, Vivien would come to befriend her dear friend, Cae'saries, and become caretaker to a small colony of gaelicat.

a realm reborn

Despite Aubin's lamentation over the potentiality of not finding a politically beneficial suitor to marry Vivien to, he would eventually prove successful. A success for House Valentine as their coffers began to slowly dwindle as the Dragonsong War raged on but Vivien disagreed with such a notion. While her suitor was renown for glory, whispers amongst the noble women spoke of his cruelty, mistreatment and apathy.As the days drew ever closer to her eventual wedding date, and having only met her betrothed over a small handful of supervised visits, Vivien knew deep in her heart that she could not allow herself to see this marriage through. Spurned by the countless stories of adventure and choosing one's own destiny that she had read over and over, Vivien would pack a bag of traveling garments and some small personal items, managing to steal some dried fruits from the kitchen and swipe a decent amount of gil from the family's home coffer before fleeing in the shadows of the night.With her hood concealing her identity, she would manage to flee from House Valentine and Ishgard as a whole, making her way haphazardly through Coerthas and eventually Gridania. Along the way, she would befriend a strangely colored Gaelicat whom she would name Jacques.

Despite having immersed herself in tales of triumphant adventure, the reality of such was filled with much more hardship than Vivien anticipated. Unaccustomed to markets and uneducated in the true value of gil, her coin dwindled quickly, forcing Vivien to take up extra work, often times as a healer at Gridania's adventurer's guild.However, such jobs did not pay quite well and it was imperative that she take on her first combat mission - one that would lead to her meeting and befriending a Midlander man named Kaian Walker, and his Vieran companion Amelia. Together, they would form a rapport and make for a decent adventuring party. Despite her apprehensions and initial flounders, Vivien found herself growing immensely as a healer and growing fond of her new companions. However, she would deign not to grace them with "an origin story," enjoying life as "just Vivien," not Vivien Valentine.The trio would go on to take several more jobs, eventually landing them in the sights of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. As their adventures continued, she would find herself developing feelings for Kaian yet buried them deep. Eventually, her birthplace and noble status would be revealed as they would come to learn that bounties for Vivien's return to Ishgard were placed by Aubin.

  bookworm.   Vivien is a bookworm at heart and is frequently seen with one in her hands. Recently, she has begun to publish her own spicy romance novels under a pseudonym. Perhaps you're a fellow bibliophile or a fan of her work?

  Ishgardian nobility.   Despite her overall sheltered childhood, Vivien was still made to keep up appearances, attending countless balls and social events. Do you recognize her and her star-kissed cheeks? Politics, angst, betrayal, manipulation... its all on the table!

  tea enthusiast.   Forever a lover of the finest teas, Vivien frequents tea shops in the locales she visits, most notably the Verdant Cafe where she is close friends with the proprietress. Would you like to share a cup of tea with her?

  the moonmaiden.   Are you, too, blessed by the Twelve? Or are you simply a researcher wishing to know more about those connected to the Gods? Maybe even a devout follower? There is so much to explore with the Moonmaiden and the entirety of the Twelve.

  bounties.   Once Vivien fled Ishgard, both her father and her betrothed placed bounties for her return. Alive, preferably, but bounty hunters aren't always known for her tact. Perhaps you've seen the obscenely high reward for this fair noble girl's return.

Kaian Walker

  Warrior of Light.   Vivien's beloved husband and father of her three children, Kaian is reknowned by many as both Warrior of Light and magitek inventor. Throughout their years together, they've faced countless trials.

  ⏾ The Steel Ghost of Kugane.     The quiet companion of the Walker family, often presenting herself as their maid. Her strange mannerisms often prompt questions that she and the Walkers prefer not to answer.

Cae'saries

  Keeper of the Lilacs.     Vivien's long time best friend, having met one another in their teens during Vivien's nightly adventures. Cae encourages Vivien the most to break out of her shell.

Eulalie Walker ⏾

  Child Prodigy.     The eldest daughter of Kaian and Vivien, Eulalie is an incredibly talented magitek inventor following in her father's footsteps. She will often spend days locked in her workshop without sleeping or eating.

Julien Walker ⏾

  Solitary Son.     Middle child and only son of Vivien and Kaian. Julien has suppressed his artistic spirit as to focus on training with the blade. He is protective of his mother and sisters yet downright aggressive to his father.

Rosalie Walker ⏾

  Fae Favored.     The youngest of the Walker children and just as flowery as her name would imply. Sweet and kindhearted, she is often seen speaking to someone that no one else can perceive.

Aubin Valentine ⏾

  Patriarch of House Valentine.     A man with many secrets, Aubin is a difficult man to read although his most genuine smiles are seen around his beloved wife, Adelaide, and their daughters.

Adelaide Valentine ⏾

  Tender Matron.    Known throughout Ishgard for her selflessness and for throwing extravagant balls, Adelaide advocated to adopt the infant Vivien and has always treated the Miqo'te as one of her own.

Lucienne Valentine ⏾

  Valentine Heiress.     Heir apparent, Lucienne dedicates herself fully to House Valentine. Eldest sister of the three Valentine daughters, Lucienne outwardly resents Vivien and has never treated her like a sister.

Jeanne Valentine ⏾

  Jolly Knight.     The middle daughter of House Valentine. Despite her birth into a noble house, Jeanne has much preferred the spear over "awfully boring and frilly endeavors for a woman like me." Despite a rough beginning, Jeanne and Vivien are now quite close.

Fern Darling ⏾

  ⏾ Walkerworks Vice President.     Hardworking and with incredible attention to detail, Fern Darling is the long-time secretary and now Vice President of Walkerworks, having been with the company since its founding by Kaian's grandfather.

Camilla Bellegarde ⏾

  ⏾ Cruel Proprietess.    CEO of Bellegarde Industries, a magitek company in direct competition with Walkerworks, Camilla has been at odds with Kaian for years. She now has her eyes set on Vivien's concentrated aether.

Seraphina Borlaaq ⏾

  Walker Estate Maid.     Newest hire of the main Walker Estate, Seraphine is a Xaela whose family left the Steppe when she was a child. Earnest and eager, she takes all of her assignments quite seriously.

Theodora Baudelaire ⏾

  ⏾ Knight of Winter     A Brume-rat turned respected knight under the watch of Claudien Winter, Theodora was tasked with keeping Vivien safe after her return to Ishgard.

Jacques

  Loyal Companion.    Vivien's Gaelicat that rarely leaves her side. Encountered on her first night away from Ishgard, Vivien offered the creature a share of her fish sandwich and the Gaelicat has followed her everywhere since.
